For Better Or Worse

Thu May 22, 2008 at 09:06:25 AM PDT

This morning I woke up thinking about an opinion piece that I read in my local paper about marriage.  The writer said that rather than extending the benefits of marriage to same-sex couples that we should rescind those benefits from everyone.  Same-sex marriage is being rightly supported as a civil rights issue, but I haven't seen anyones' argument about the way that marriage benefits society.  Below is a letter I sent to the paper and a link to the original article...

Follow The Money

Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 07:55:05 PM PDT

Pay very close attention to what our candidates propose as a solution to the current economic crisis.  Someone will be left holding the bag - most likely taxpayers.  A bigger issue is preventing this from happening again (at least for a long while) and that means we need investigation, prosecution, legislation, and regulation.

Obama: Why the knives have come out

Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 09:04:05 AM PDT

"I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs." "I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking." "Hey, wait a minute, there's one guy holding out both puppets!" - Bill Hicks

Clinton is the puppet on the left. McCain is the puppet on the right.  Big money is the guy holding out the puppets.  Sure, we'll take the puppet on the left if that's the best we can do.  If that is all we are left with.

Options Market Omen?

Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 02:27:46 PM PDT

Someone is betting $4.5 Billion that the U.S. market will drop in value by 50% within the next 3 weeks.  I don't know what it means but my first thought was that it reminds me of the airline trades made prior to 9/11.  I hope it is just some exotic financial play unlikely to affect you and I.  If it isn't, then what kind of things would lead to such a huge loss in value?  I have read speculation of 4 possibilities.

Coupons: How To Part II

Thu Feb 08, 2007 at 10:58:52 AM PDT

Have you ever been behind one of "those people" at your local grocery?  You know, the one that takes a while to checkout, but ends up paying $50 for a big cart of groceries?  Well if you would like to be that person read on...

Coupons: Free Money!

Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 08:33:21 AM PDT

Well, almost free.  What if you could do a little reading and web surfing and turn a $40 investment into $1050?  Sounds crazy right?  Everyone would do it.  So why aren't you?

Probably because like most people you think grocery coupons are a hassle and a waste of time.  Yep, grocery coupons.  I didn't believe it either.  I've only been doing coupons for about a year and I have saved a few thousand dollars.

Bargain Baby

Tue Dec 05, 2006 at 02:43:31 PM PDT

bondad's diary today on a middle class panel at YKos inspired me to share this pint-sized economic issue for the edification of childless DKos members.

If you have a child/children of your own none of this will come as any surprise, and you will probably agree that I have a "bargain" baby.  Follow me below to see what a new baby costs in the first year, assuming everything is good.

Pie: Vote

Tomorrow is colloquially known as "Turkey Day".  While the big bird does have it's devotees in my family I think of it as "Pie Day".

Goodbye Mr. Unitary Executive

Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 02:38:06 PM PDT

Since the incumbent party has been taking a jackhammer to our Constitution this seems like an opportune time for we, the people to contemplate a little DIY project of our own.

It's time to bring the Executive Branch into the present.
